HS Football: The Eagles Soar Past Santa Rosa 49-6

Rancho Christian Dominant in Fourth Straight South Valley League Win

It was business as usual Friday night as Coach Jin Kunau and his Rancho Christian Eagles dominated their South Valley league opponents. The Eagles exploded for 28 points in the first quarter and added another 14 in the second quarter as they cruised to a one-sided victory over Santa Rosa Academy.
The Eagles are now 7-2 overall and tied for first place with Calvary Murrieta in the South Valley league. Both teams have identical records and will meet to decide who’s on top of the heap next week. The Warriors destroyed Hamilton 71-0 Friday night.
Rancho Christian’s senior quarterback Preston Diehl led the Eagle attack against the Rangers. Deihl was a perfect 7-for-7 passing with 125 yards in the air that resulted in two touchdowns. He also scored a rushing TD on a 30 yard quarterback keeper around the corner in the second quarter. He hit Evan Pruitt for an 11-yard score touchdown.
Coach Kunau decided to rest his quarterback and Diehl was replaced by freshman Carter Treadway. The young quarterback responded by heaving a 59-yard bomb past a stunned Ranger defense to wide receiver Hedgar Taylor.
The Eagles defense totally shut down Santa Rosa Academy. The Rangers only scored late in the game on a fourth quarter touchdown. Freshman Paul Nichols got into the action as he intercepted a Ranger pass to stop a scoring drive and then running it 76 yards into the end zone for a “pick-six.” Touchdown. As usual, kicker Emma Baker was perfect as clockwork, nailing all of her PATs.

The big game against Calvary Murrieta will be at Rancho Christian this Friday night. Game time is 7pm.
