The Southwestern League is ranked as the “Toughest High School Baseball League in the Nation” by MaxPreps and things are starting to get even tougher. The Broncos are perched on top in first place with a record of 7-3 with five games left to play.
The Nighthawks are right behind with a 6-3 record followed by the surprising Temecula Valley Golden Bears who are 6-4. Chaparral is 5-5 and in the fourth position with Great Oak and Murrieta Mesa in fifth and sixth.

The Golden Bears’ Davis Maldonado is leading the league in hitting with a .463 average. Bronco Connor Cannon is the Home run leader with four and Mitch Hayes of the Wolfpack has 30 RBIs despite being intentionally walked often.
Three pitchers are tied for the league lead for victories. Murrieta Valley’s Nicko Cottone, Johnny Morell and the Golden Bears’ Isaiah Moten have five wins each. Vista Murrieta’s Jack Moberg is the Southwestern legue ERA leader with a miniscule 1.24 average. Cammeron Haskell of Chaparral is the current stike out king with 49 Ks.
