“What a match! Both teams were unstoppable. 32 ties and 15 lead changes. Both teams sided the other out continuously’ said Great Oak Head Coach Mark Matlock. “We were able to play the big points really well for the most part of the match, finishing games when earning the opportunity”
The Wolfpack’s Cindy Marina directed Great Oak’s offense and ended the game with 45 assists. Offensively, Amy Underdown had 20 kills and Bailee Huizenga added 14. Defensively Sam Rice had 29 digs and the Wolfpack was tough in the middle.
Makayla Wolfe had 18 kills and seven blocks for Santiago and Ashlyn Blotzer was intimidating at the net for the Sharks.
I wasn’t easy for the Wolfpack Tuesday’s match. Great Oak trailed late in the first, second and fourth sets and the Wolfpack came back to win them, “Huge win for us” added Coach Motluck. “This game particularly, against such a quality program, and in their gym. Santiago played really well, just a great display of volleyball on both sides”.
The Great Oak girls have set some lofty goals this season. The first is to win the Southwestern league title again. The second is to win the CIF Sectional and then go on to win the State Championship. The fourth? “We joked about getting on the cover of Sports Illustrated” Motluck said with a huge grin. “We still want that too”.
