HS Foothball: Linfield Stuns Arrowhead Christian 23-14

The Lions Are 3-1 in the Ambassador League Tied For First Place

Head Coach DeChon Burns is proving to disbelievers that his Linfield Christian football team deserves some respect. In the past seven weeks, the Lions have won five of their six games, including three league victories in a row. They sit on top of the Ambassador league with a 3-1 record after defeating previously unbeaten Arrowhead Christian on Friday night.
The Lions offense exploded in the first half, scoring 17 unanswered points before the Eagles finally got on the board. Arrowhead Christian took advantage of two Lions fumbles to get back into the game.
The first was recovered by Alex Ritz who picked up Lorenzo Burns; fumble and took it 67 yards into the end zone. Arrowhead Christian was given another gift later in the quarter that set up quarterback Bradley Mowbrey’s 33 yard touchdown pass to Isaac Mowbrey with 28 seconds left in the half. That was all the scoring the Lions would allow.
The Lions kicker Michael Brown nailed three field goals, his first was a 47 yarder for the first score of the game. Lorenzo Burns then scored on a 42-yard quarterback draw for a touchdown late in the first quarter. Linfield struck again in the second quarter on Zac Archer’s four yard run. Brown would a 27 yard field goal in the second quarter and a 41 yard beauty midway through the third.
Linfield’s QB Connor Waite went 7 for 14 throwing for 88 yards. Lorenzo Burns threw for an additional 104 yards completing 6 of his 8 passes. Burns also ran for 92 yards and a Touchdown. Zac Archer ran the ball 21 times for 67 yards and a TD.
On the defensive side of the ball for the Lions, Linebacker Justin Salazar had 15 tackles and 4 sacks to leaf the Lions defense. Linebackers  Greg Holt and Jacob Miller  added 10 tackles and a sack, and DE Jared Collom had 10 tackles. Safety John Henry had 3 tackles and the game sealing interception.

Linfield is in control of their destiny and will be home to play their final regular season game against next week against Ontario Christian.The Lions will be Ambassador League Champion with a win. Arrowhead moves to 8-1 (3-1 in league) and will play Western Christian next week.
