The Wolfpack Beats Murrieta Valley 3-1 to Stay Perfect
Great Oak beat Murrieta Valley 25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 25-13 Wednesday to finish the season undefeated in Southwestern League play. It was the second straight year that the Wolfpack has won the League Championship with an unblemished record. They are 10-0 in league and 18-5 overall. Great Oak has won 21 straight league games.
The Nighthawks put up a gallant fight but the Wolfpack proved to be too much, and Great Oak recovered quickly after dropping the second set 20-25 to take the final two sets. The Wolfpack’ s Cindy Marina had an amazing 50 assists against Murrieta Valley. Bailee Huizenga led Great Oak with 19 kills and Amy Underdown had 13. Samantha Rice had 17 digs in the game.
The Wolfpack is a young team and will only lose four seniors to graduation this year. Marina, Huizenga, Underdown and Rice are all juniors. Great Oak is ranked 6th in the CIF SS Division 1 polls and ready for the playoffs. The Wolfpack made it to the Semifinals last year.
Chaparral Clinched second place and secured a spot in the CIF playoffs with a devastating sweep of Murrieta Mesa 25-14, 25-15, 25-13. Julia Cubbage had 10 kills and added 13 assists. Megan Shugrou had13 digs, Karli Koza 13.Becca Branch had 21 assists for the Pumas.
Vista Murrieta finished in third place with a sweep of Temecula Valley 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. The Broncos finished the year 22-10 overall.
CIF Playoff opening times and dates will be announced Friday.
