HS Water Polo: Murrieta Valley Wins 16th Consecutive Southwestern League Title

The Nighthawks Overwhelm Chaparral 19-10

The Murrieta Valley Nighthawks handed Coach Bryan Lynton his 16th consecutive Southwestern League Crown Thursday evening as they quickly beat Chaparral 19-10. “We have been fortunate to string together quite a few of them now, and it is a major goal for our program every year”said Murrieta Valley coach Bryan Lynton. “It’s fun and it’s exciting for the players. Winning the Southwestern League is a big deal.”
Nighthawk Senior Decker Dempsey got things started for Murrieta Valley scoring four of his six goals in the first quarter. Nighthawk Hudson Rawlings took over in the second quarter scoring three of his six goals in the period. The Nighthawks were up 12-2 after two quarters.
Murrieta Valley scored three goals in the third and four more in the final period to cruise to a 19-10 victory. Joshua Benitez scored two goals for the Nighthawks as Casey Lynton, Eric Schuelinger and Ian Fleenor each scored one.
Chaparral’s Jack Donnelly led the Pumas with four goals. Weston Parrett scored twice and Cam Whopperer, John Pelak, Adonis Cornejo and Weston Kelliher scored on apiece.
Murrieta Valley is ranked number two in Division 3 and the Nighthawks have a pre-CIF SS Playoff game tonight against Los Osos to get ready . The Grizzles are the undefeated Baseline league champions and are ranked third in the CIF SS Division II.

The CIF SS Water Polo Playoff brackets and times will be released on Sunday. The Nighthawks are expected to be the No.2 seed. Laguna Beach is the top seed in Division 3. Murrieta Valley lost to the Breakers earlier in the year 11-6.
