The Huskies Advance to the California State Division 1 Regional Semifinals

10429254_850907891638565_6846097863278381850_nCorona Centennial blew right past Village Christian 104-70 Saturday night on their way to the California State Division 1 Regional Semifinal game this Tuesday. The hot shooting Huskies jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the first period and never looked back. Corona took a 50-25 lead into the locker room at the half and came out with guns blazing in the third period.

The Crusaders put it all together in the third period as they scored 28 points against a tough Centennial defense. Undaunted, the Huskies responded by scoring 32 points of their own and took a commanding 82-53 lead as the final period began. Centennial closed it out bay scoring 22 more and pass the 100 point mark for the second time this season.

Senior center Sedrick Barefield led the Huskies with 22 points and senior strong forward Kahlil Ahmad added 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Junior guard Jordan Griffin nailed four 3-pointers and ended the game with 16 points.  Junior Ike Anigbogu and senior Courtney Moffatt scored 10 points apiece, Kyle Hamilton eight and Jalen Hill added seven. Chris Famous scored four, Tyler Goodlow three and  Jaylen Wilz  and Paul Viela had two points each.

Village Christian senior Bennie Boatwright and junior Josh Caston each scored 17 points to pace the Crusaders. Senior Kahlil Simplis added 14, Jerrick Ahanmisi 12 and Clinton Powell six points. Jabari Daluz scored three points and Blake Jackson dropped in a free throw from the charity stripe to round out the scoring for Village Christian.

10408971_850906634972024_5551965691611429723_nThe Huskies will face off with Redondo Union Tuesday night. The Sea Hawks held off a strong fourth period rally to beat St. John Bosco 80-77 in Saturday’s round two game. The game will be played at Centennial at 7pm.
