Division 1 fourth seed Murrieta Valley had their hands full Thursday as they narrowly slipped past Los Altos 2-1 in the opening game of the 2015 CIF Southern Section Softball Championships.

Nighthawk pitcher Olivia Sanchez dominated and tamed the Conquerors to pick up her 18th victory of the season. The only bad pitch Sanchez made was a ball that Berlynne Delamora whacked out of the park.

It was all tied up at one run apiece until Amber Bishop stepped up to the plate in the sixth.  Bishop’s lead-off home run gave Murrieta Valley the go ahead run and the 2-1 win over Los Altos. The Nighthawk bats were unusually quiet against Conquerors pitcher Celeste Wood. Murrieta’s explosive offense needs to get back on track as they advance in the playoffs.

The Nighthawks next game will on Tuesday to face Etiwanda at home. The Eagles dominated and beat Yorba Linda 5-0 in their opening round match.
