The ball just didn’t bounce the Nighthawks’ way Friday afternoon. Murrieta Valley fell to West Ranch 2-1 in their CIF SS Division 1 Quarterfinal game.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Wildcats number-9 hitter Katie Clinkunbroomer faced Murrieta Ace Olivia Sanchez. Clinkunbroomer singled home the winning run to send West Ranch to the Semi-finals.

An inning earlier, with two on and one out Sanchez came to the plate. She crushed Wildcat pitcher Lexi Sorensen’s fastball over the leftfield wall. Unfortunately it was inches foul. On the next pitch Sanchez hit a liner to the West Ranch first baseman Kennedi Sorensen. Sorensen caught the ball, stepped on the base and doubled up the runner to end the inning.

The Nighthawks scored their only run in the first inning on an RBI single by Sanchez. West Valley scored their first run in the fourth inning helped by two Murrieta Valley fielding errors.

The Southwestern League Champion Nighthawks finish the season with a 26-7 record.
