Murrieta Mesa pitcher Austen Salcedo allowed just one run on three hits against the Wolfpack to defeat Great Oak 3-1 Thursday afternoon. The Rams lefthander was making only his second start of the season and had things quite under control all afternoon. His only mistake of the day was a pitch that Mitch Hayes blasted out of the ballpark in the first inning.

It stayed 1-0 until the fourth inning. Murrieta Mesa catcher Andy Thomas stepped up to the plate and drove in two runs with a towering home run to put the Rams up for good. Thomas would also score the games third run on Salcedo’s single in the fifth. Tre Erikson and Zachary Filos scored for the Rams.

Great Oak’s Hunter Johnson and Eric Sanchez got the other hits off Sacedo for the Wolfpack. Zacjk Noll went the distance for Great Oak giving up the three runs on seven hits and picked up the loss. Great Oak falls to 5-7 in league play. The Rams improve to 3-10

The Wolfpack will finish out the regular season with two games against Murrieta Valley next week. The Nighthawks are tied for first place in the Southwestern league with Vista Murrieta. The Rams play two with Chaparral. The Pumas have a 6-6 league record.
