It was a classic pitcher’s duel Wednesday afternoon as Murrieta Valley’s Nikko Cottone and Great Oak’s Zack Knoll battled it out on the mound. The two lefthanders had each other’s hitters mesmerized as Cottone limited the Wolfpack to just two hits and Knoll only gave up seven.

It looked like it was going to be another extra inning game in the Southwestern League when Cottone retired the side in the top of the seventh. It wasn’t to be.

After striking out Brent McDonald, Knoll gave up successive singles to Walker Keller and Max Maitland to load the bases. Dominic Morace came up to the plate and worked the count, drew the base on balls and brought home the only run of the game.
