Nighthawk Head Coach George Wilson wasted no time after the season ended to put Murrieta Valley Football back on track to contend in the tough Southwestern League. Wilson aggressively revamped his over-worked coaching staff with key additions with experience, fresh ideas and a winning attitude. Wilson is looking forward to his second year running the Nighthawk program.
Murrieta Valley fell to 4-6 overall and was 2-3 in league last season. It was the second consecutive year that the Nighthawks failed to make the CIF SS Playoffs after five consecutive appearances under Greg Ireland.
“Last year I was proud of how hard we played” said Coach Wilson. “Finishing third was not our goal but I am proud of the way we played. Through a lot of change over the past couple years, the team came together as a family”.

The new Offensive Coordinator for the Nighthawks is Pete Duffy. Duffy was the head coach of Moreno Valley’s Rancho Verde High. He led the Mustangs for 10 years building a winning program that dominated the Inland Valley league. Duffy led the Mustangs to nine consecutive CIF-SS Playoffs and won the Central Division Championship in 2012.

Murrieta Valley’s new Defensive Coordinator will be Stan Hunt. Hunt is no stranger to Murrieta Valley Football. He held the same position for the Nighthawks in 2008. Since then, he has coached at Corona Centennial and then moved to Chaparral in 2011.

Most of the offensive coaching staff is new this season. The offensive line is coached by Andre Smith and running backs are now under the direction of Terelius Wright. Shawn Sams is the receivers coach. Returning coaches are Quincy Wimbish Sr. who coaches the running back and Andy Forster who is responsible for the wide outs.
The only returning defensive coaches from last season are Jaime Zarate and Perry Jones who coach the defensive linemen. Joining them this season are Outside Linebacker Coach Sean Cue and Defensive Backs Coach Willie Newton.
Several other new coaches are expected to be announced by Darin Mott, the MVHS Athletic Director shortly.
“I am very excited about the staff we were able to put together” said Coach Wilson. “We have coaches with lots of experience and a lot of success. Our expectation every year is to be successful”.
Murrieta Valley is back to being a positive, motivated football program with a winning attitude and looking forward to the new season.
