Led by Head Coach Shannon Maurice and his daughter Brittney as his Assistant Coach, Great Oak began the tournament with a four point victory over Westview. The Wolfpack then beat Ironwood Ridge from Tucson 38-32 in the second game of the opening round on Friday.

On Saturday in the second round of the tournament Great Oak easily defeated another Tucson team, Marana 25-12. The victory sent them to the Semi-final game on Sunday. The Wolfpack destroyed Gila Ridge 32-17 setting up the Championship game with Iron Ridge.
The Nighthawks were looking to avenge their earlier loss on the first day of the tournament and came out with a vengeance against the defending Champions. The Wolfpack defense held and Great Oak won the game 35-31 and celebrated their third consecutive Tournament Championship.

“I want to thank all the parents and families who joined us for the tournament. We were able to repeat as champions for a third time due to our defense, both individually and as a team” said Coach Maurice.
“ In summer basketball it is so important to have veterans who you can rely on for the important baskets and defensive stops. I thought the seniors, Déjà Burnside, Cheldon Alcantara, and Bri Charles played a big role for us. The underclassmen also played some big minutes to help us win”.
Great Oak’s roster consists of seniors Cheldon Alcantara, Deja Burnside, Briana Charles, Samantha Gonzales and Julia Southard. The Wollfpack has three juniors, Amanda Constant, Tianna Shaw, Ariel Rivera and two sophomores Jessica Dutton and Brooke Padgett. Coach Maurice also has three freshmen, Ashley Waltz, Victoria Farris and Sydney Moran on the team.

The Southwestern League Girls have dominated this tournament over the years, capturing seven Championships. Vista Murrieta has also won the tournament three times and Chaparral was the 2008 Champion.
