The Nighthawks had previously beaten the Titans 2-1 earlier in the tournament. That victory  would have eliminated Grand Terrace in the past, but a change of rules last year added an extra round of bracket play which created an opportunity for the Titans.

Grand Terrace made good use of that opportunity. The Titans took the lead back in the bottom of the inning with a three run outburst that was helped by three errors by the Nighthawks. Titan pitcher Meanie Olmos picked up the win as she allowed just one hit and shut out the Nighthawks for the rest of the game as Grand Terrace won 7-2.

Olivia Sanchez gave up three runs on seven hits over 4 innings and was saddled with the loss. Autumn Pease came in to pitch an inning of relief and gave up four runs on two hits. Autumn Bishop got two of Murrieta’s four hits and was on base when her twin sister homered. McKenna Tjaden had the other Nighthawk hit.

The Titans ended up with 14 hits, five of them doubles as they feasted on Nighthawk pitching. Alyssa Martinez was 3-for-3 and scored a run while Melanie Olmos went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in two. Alyssa graham also had two runs batted in for the Titans.

The Nighthawks will travel across town Thursday to face Vista Murrieta. The Broncos are 10-8 overall and 0-2 in Southwestern League play. Murrieta Valley’s record is 17-6, 2-2 and they are the league’s defending Champions. Game time is 3:30.
