Murrieta Valley celebrated their third consecutive Southwestern League Softball Championship on Saturday with a perfect 9-0 record. The Nighthawks were scheduled to play a much anticipated game against Great Oak for a share of the title. The Wolpack were 8-1.
According to Murrieta Valley Athletic Director Darin Mott the game was canceled by CIF Southern Section officials Only teams that required a victory to advance to the CIF SS Playoffs would play. Since the Nighthawks and the Wolfpack were solidly locked into the playoff picture, the game was nixed.
This was not the way either team wanted to end the season. The Wolfpack missed a shot at the Title and the Nighthawks Senior day was canceled.
Murrieta Valley and Great Oak will now wait out the weekend to see where they play in the CIF SS Division 1 playoffs. The brackets will be posted on Monday.
