HS Track: Ten Records Fall in the 2015 Southwestern League Track Finals

Vista Murrieta Boys are the Southwestern League Team Champs. The Wolfpack and Bronco Girls are Co-Champions

Vista Murrieta junior Michael Norman led the Broncos Boys team to a convincing 194 to 142 victory over second place Great Oak. Murrieta Mesa finished third with 77 points Wednesday at the Southwestern League Finals followed by Murrieta Valley, Chaparral and Temecula Valley.

Norman set a National Record in the 200 meters with a time of 20.69.The Bronco junior also set the SWL meet record in the 400m with a run of 47.62. His time was slightly lower than his national record time of 45.91 in the event.

11143363_485132808300677_6382942229236266439_nJunior sprinter Antonio Mitchell won the 100 meters with a time of 10.51 and Bronco teammate Cole Dubots finished right behind him at 10.6. Nick Rack took the 00 meter hurdles with a time of 14.78.

Triple jumper CJ Alumbres won his event with a jump of 48 feet, 8 inches, long jumper Jordan Testerman finished first with a leap of 21 feet11 inches. Nate Kelley won the high jump for the Broncos and Christian Beatty the pole vault.

Great Oak’s Isaac Cortes set the league records in the 800 and 1600 meters with times of 1:53.40 and 4:13.15.  Cole Spencer also set the Southwestern League meet record in the 3,200 with a time of 9:24.03. The Wolfpack broke the meet record book in five of the six distance races.

11193295_485132368300721_4889108346859291352_nDestiny Collins led the Wolfpack Girls team to victory 175.50 to 166.3 over the Broncos. Collins set two new meet records in the 1,600) and the 3,200 with times of 4:51.64 and 10:23.49. Murrieta Mesa finished third and Chaparal fourth. Murrieta Valley came in fifth and Temecula Valley sixth.

Vista Murrieta senior Lovie Burleson won the long jump and triple jump of 38feet 11 inches. She also won the long jump at 19 feet ½ inches. Teammate Amanda Van Buren placed first in the 100 and 200 meters.

The Wolfpack and Broncos share the Southwestern League Championship as Vista Murrieta won the Dual Meet earlier this year.
