HS Wrestling: Poway Crowned 2015 Battle of the Belt Champions

The Temecula Valley Tournament is Considered the Number One HS Invitational in California 

1601567_433997713414187_460879053486607298_n The Poway High Wrestling team was dominate as they and captured the Temecula Valley 2015 Battle of the Belt Championship. Unlike last year when the Titans slipped past Vacaville 190.5-190 to win, Poway crushed the field and ran away with tournament.

The Titans scored 281.5 points, second place San Marino was a distant second with 141 points. Loomis Del Oro placed third, Benicia HS fourth, Pine Creek fifth and De La Salle finished in sixth place.

10917305_433996873414271_399518193435052277_nThe tournament featured 66 teams from California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii and is considered the number one High School Wresting Invitational in the state. Temecula Valley finished in 18th place this year behind the team from Lahaina. “The tournament went outstanding,” said Temecula Valley coach Arnold Alpert. “The competition was awesome, officiating was great. It was a great tournament.”

Hemet had the highest finish among local high schools at the event, placing 14th. Temescal Canyon was 27th, Great Oak 29th, Chaparral 31st and Paloma Valley came in 61st place.
10933856_433996596747632_7420583439310185823_nTemescal Canyon heavyweight David Eubanks was the only wrestler in the Southwestern and Sunbelt League to advance to a championship final. He lost to Connor Mowatt of Hawaii’s  Lahaina  High in a overtime 3-2. IT was only the second loss that he Riverside County Champion has suffered this season.

10891752_433997360080889_5561105960747793870_nHemet had two wrestlers place in the tournament. Tristin Sutton earned third-place at 195 pounds and Caleb Wilson took sixth at 160. Hemet West Valley’s Alex Hernandez placed third at 145 pounds.
Great Oak’s Mike Colello was the only Southwestern League wrestler to place, taking at the 195 pound weight class. The Tigers’ Kennith Kirk of Elsinore was seventh at 152.
