With the Fourth of July around the corner it’s time to get ready to celebrate Murrieta’s Birthday Bash. Esequial Murrieta and his brother Juan brought 100,000 sheep to the valley in 1873. The area slowly evolved and Murrieta officially became a city on July 1, 1991. The city was home to more than 24,000 residents but now there are more people here than the number of sheep the that the Murrieta brothers originally brought.
This exciting community Birthday Party gets started on Saturday at 2:00 pm in the afternoon at the California Oaks Sports Park. The festivities last until just past 9:00 pm in the evening. The festival gives Murrieta residents a chance to celebrate all that they have built together since it became a city 24 years ago.
The Kids Zone opens at 2 pm with rides for the kids, live music and good eats from various vendors. The traditional Fireman’s Hose-down begins at 4 pm to help cool off the crowd on a very hot summer days. (We hope it happens this year…never know with the Drought going on).
The live music starts at 5:00pm with AM Gold, a 70s and 80s music band. They will be followed by Rumours, a tribute band to Fleetwood Mac at 7:00 p.m. The Celebration ends with a spectacular fireworks exhibition which will begin at 9:00.
