Offensive Struggles Continue in 9-2 Loss to High Desert

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm struggled on offense again Wednesday night, as the High Desert Mavericks completed a three-game sweep with a 9-2 defeat of the Storm.

Despite the early struggles, Lemond found his command in the subsequent frames. The 22-year old righty allowed just three hits over his next four innings of work, striking out seven in his second outing of the season.

But a catcher's interference call on what would have been an inning-ending fly out prolonged the frame, allowing High Desert to tack on four more runs to make it 9-0.

11148752_421159188045285_9217122037547846338_nThe Eyes have had trouble putting runs on the board of late, and that trend continued in tonight's game. After scoring in the fifth inning of Monday's contest, Lake Elsinore failed to score until the ninth inning Wednesday evening.

Gabriel Quintana launched a late blast, his first of the season, to end the 23 inning scoring drought and bring the tally to 9-2, but that would be all as the Storm fell for the third consecutive game.

Robert Kral made his return to the Lake Elsinore lineup for the first time since 2013 and had two hits.Kyle Bartsch worked 1.1 innings of scoreless relief as well.

The Storm (3-4) hit the road for the first time in 2015 tomorrow, traveling to Rancho Cucamonga for the first of four with the Quakes. Ronald Herrera (1-0, 3.00 ERA) is set to take on Rancho's Zachary Bird (1-0, 1.80 ERA) in the Los Angeles Dodgers affiliate's home opener. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
