Everyone involved in the Golden Bears Baseball Program was shocked and saddened earlier this week when Coach Tony Nobiensky announced that he was leaving. The popular coach instilled a winning attitude at Temecula Valley where he went 105-57-1 over six seasons.
Nobiensky stated that he will be spending more time with his family and helping his son who plays for Rancho Christian.
The Golden Bears finished third in the tough Southwester League in his first two seasons at the helm before winning the League Crown in 2012, His team repeated as League Champions in 2013. Temecula Valley advanced all he way to the CIF SS Division 2 Championship game that season but lost to Cyrpess 5-0.
After finishing second in the Southwestern League to Great Oak in 2014, Nobiensky guided Temecula Valley through the CIF SS Playoffs to the Championship game once again. This time his Golden Bears would not be denied. Temecula Valley beat Aliso Niguel 5-3 to win the Division 2 Crown.
“Coach Nobie is the best coach that I’ve ever had. He knows when to take control of the game and when to just let the players in the field play” said former Golden Bears Catcher Nick Juhl now playing in college at Metropolitan State University.
“I’ve known him since he taught me in the 6th grade and I’ve really learned a lot from him regarding life on the field as well as off it. He genuinely cares about you. I’m just glad I was fortunate enough to be able to play under him. I wouldn’t be the same person today without him in my life.”
“Coach Nobie is the only head coach to win a CIF title in our program’s history. He cares about his players and wants everyone to get better every day. He has done a lot for me as a person and a player” said last year’s captain Kyle Plantier, now playing at UCSB.
“He’s the definition of a player’s coach. He always wants to be around his team, asks players’ opinions about what’s going on and thinks about them. He taught us the things many of us use today in life and in college".
“Coach Nobie put in the dedication and time to make us a better team” said this year’s Golden Bears Captain David Maldonado. “It has been an honor to play three years for Coach and sharing a CIF Championship ring with him. Thank you Coach Nobie for everything.”
Nobiensky was a Golden Bears assistant coach before taking over from Anthony Mendez in 2010. His influence and guidance is appreciated by all of his former players no matter what year they graduated. He will be missed by everyone in the Golden Bears Baseball family.
