Mullinix began her coaching career at Union High School as the Assistant Coach and became the Head Coach for the Bobcats 2 years later. In 2012 Mullinix was voted "Coach of the Year" for the OSAA 2A Blue Mountain Conference.
In her last season as Head coach for Union, she led the Bobcats into the 2013 Oregon 2A State Championship game. Although the State title eluded her, the Bobcats made school history as the first team to ever win a game at the state tournament. More recently, Mullinix was an assistant coach for the Vista Murrieta Girls Basketball team.
“I’m really excited having Coach Mullinix here at Murrieta Valley” said Nighthawk Athletic Director Darin Mott. "She brings a lot of energy, experience to the program and has hit the ground running. I am confident the Nighthawk girls varsity basketball program is great hands”.
“My goal is to create a successful program and not just operate as a successful team’ said Mullinix. “We are going to build a winning philosophy. No matter who or what goes on the floor, we are going to be to be the ones working the hardest. Our goal is to come together with these new changes to set the bar even higher to meet this challenge”.
The Nighthawks were 21-7 overall and 5-5 in league last season under Scott Richards who is moving on to become Vice Principal at Thompson Middle School.
Mullinix inherits a young team willing to adapt. “We had several girls who played at the varsity level as freshmen last year. That’s a plus and a great opportunity” said the new coach. “I think that there is a lot of work on my part to get to know the players and studying how to best utilize their talents. I believe we can be one of the top contenders in the league”.

Mullinix is Looking Forward to the Challenges of Building a Successful Girls Basketball Program
Tessa Mullinix grew up playing basketball for the Condon High School in Oregon. Even though the town only had a population of 500 people, the Blue Devils were a perennial Girls basketball powerhouse. Mullinix was a 4 year high school varsity point guard who helped lead her team to three Oregon State Basketball Championships.
