The 2015 All-Southwestern League Baseball Team Selected

Great Oak’s Mitch Hayes Named the League’s Most Valuable Player

The Wolfpack’s Mitch Hayes was selected as the Most Valuable Player in the Southwestern League this week. Great Oak’s slugging senior third baseman led the league in home runs, runs batted in and slugging percentage. Hayes was also a solid pitcher and the ace of the Wolfpack staff. Joining Hayes on the All Southwestern first team from Great Oak is junior outfielder Brandon Stewart.

The Southwestern League Champion Broncos have three players on the First team squad. Senior outfielder Hunter Tidwell junior pitcher/catcher Jack Moberg and his younger brother Jake were selected from Vista Murrieta. The younger Moberg was the only freshman to make the All Southwestern First or Second Team.

Murrieta Valley also has three Nighthawks selected to the First team. They are senior first baseman Aaron Shackelford, senior shortstop Max Maitland and senior Nikko Cottone, the ace of the Murrieta Valley pitching staff. Cottoned was tied for the league lead in wins with seven.

Seniors David Maldonado and Jarrod Iwasaki represent the Golden Bears on the First team. Maldonado led the league in hitting and runs scored while Iwasaki batted .382 and emerged as the ace for Temecula Valley down the stretch.

Chaparral had two players make the First team. Seniors Cameron Haskell and Gavin Johns both were selected. Johns was one of the best defensive catchers in the league and battery mate Haskell led the league in strikeouts.

Murrieta Mesa’s Austen Salcedo was the Rams only selection to the All Southwestern League’s First team. The junior outfielder was the Rams offensive leader and ended up on the mound for Murrieta Mesa at the end of the season with a 2-1 record and a 1.40 ERA.

The All Southwestern League Second team selections are junior infielder/pitcher Connor Cannon and senior infielder Angel Ortiz from Vista Murrieta, Senior infielder Teddy Smith and junior pitcher Johnny Morell from Murrieta Valley and senior catcher Connor Trippet and outfielder Griffin Doran from Temecula Valley.
The rest of the players to be selected to Second team are all seniors. They are infielder Brhet Bewley and first baseman Mark Sauceda from Chaparral, infielders Trey Endris and Logan Morrison of Great Oak and Luke Reinert and Trae Erikson from Murrieta Mesa.
