HS Football: Linfield Christian Overwhelms Adelanto 46-0

The Lions are 2-0 & Focused on Getting the Job Done… One Game a Time

IMG_3027Linfield Christian handed the Saints their second loss of the Season as the Lions dominated on both sides of the ball and won handily, 46-0.

“The team is focused and came out and played better than last week” said Lions Head Coach Dechon Burns. “The O Line was determined to control the line of scrimmage, and they did. They opened up huge holes with key blocks and we scored on 78% of our possessions”.

IMG_3026  The Lions offense started slow but kicked into high gear in the second quarter. Kicker Mike Brown started Linfield off with a 14-yard field goal in the first quarter and the Lions led 3-0. Quarterback Clay Maranville began the second quarter with a perfectly thrown 22-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Burns.

Running back Greg Holt took the ball in from the 1-yard line after the Lions drove down the field on their next possession to make it 17-0. Moments later, corner back Simeon Burns intercepted a Saints pass and returned it 31 yards into the end zone.
Special teams came up big on the following series of plays. After stopping Adelanto in 4 plays, Lorenzo Burns returned the Saints’ punt for a 62-yard punt and the Lions took a 32-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

IMG_3019Linfield got on the board right after the second half kickoff. The Lions drove downfield and scored on running back Zac Archer’s 7-yard run to make it 39-0. The Lions last score came in the fourth as Maranville hit Simeon Burns with a 27-yard touchdown pass down the sideline.

Linebacker Cooper Whitworth recovered a Saints fumble on Adelanto’s 35-yard line to put the game away. The Lions came in and ran Victory on their last possession and took the game 46-0.

IMG_3022“Our quarterback managed the football well” said Burns. “The offense capitalized on every opportunity and the defense was rock solid. Greg Holt was key in inspiring the defense and get the shutout.we are not looking ahead of ourselves, we are focused on winning one game at a time.

Linfield will be home to face Pasadena Polytechnic this Friday night. The Panthers are unbeaten with a 2-0 record. They thrashed Mark Keppel 38-7 last week ad have scored 80 points in their first two games while only giving up 13.
Game time is 7 pm.
