The Lions overcame one hurdle of the 2015 football season Friday night. They beat the team they lost to twice last year, including the game that ended Linfield’s season in the CIF SS Northwest Division Playoffs. The Lions didn’t just win, they intimidated and overwhelmed the Panthers as they rolled to a 38-14 victory.
It was déjà vu when the game began. Polytechnic drove down and scored the first points of the game. Panther quarterback John Genske hit Jack Queen with a 15 yard touchdown pass and a 7-0 lead.

The Lions came roaring back and drove the ball to the Poly 20-yard line. Simeon Burns then took the ball and darted into the end zone. The extra point was missed and the Lions trailed 6-7…but not for long.
On their next possession the Lions again drove the ball down field. Greg Holt scored on a 2-yard blast and put Linfield ahead to stay as the quarter came to an end 13-7. Then Linfield unleashed Lorenzo Burns.

Burns took a Poly punts and returned it 98 yards for a touchdown that took the life out of the Panthers. Burns then completed a pass to Holt on the ensuing 2-point conversion and the Lions led 21-7 at the half.
In the third quarter Burns broke loose and scored once again on a 52-yard run. He then orchestrated the final Linfield touchdown driving the Lions downfield before hitting Isaiah Pate with a 25 yard TD pass.
The Panthers then scored when Genske hit Queen again, this time for 60 yards and a touchdown. The Lions answered right back. Michael Brown nailed a 55 yard field goal in the fourth quarter to put the game away 38-14.
Linfield will be home to host Temescal Canyon this Friday night. The Titans are winless so far this season and hungry. They were crushed 40-8 by Palm Springs to fall to 0-3 last week.
