HS Volleyball: Chaparral’s New Head Coach Dana Burkholder is Building a Solid Foundation for the Puma Program

At her time at Arizona, she helped the Wildcats go from a top 40 team to the fourth best team in the Nation. In her senior season the All-American setter helped Arizona reach their first and only NCAA Final Four Appearance.
Burkholder is a seasoned coach and player who is passionate about the game of volleyball and what it can do for young athletes and the community. She has been coaching in the area for 8 years and is the current director of Forza1 Volleyball. Forzal1 has given her the opportunity to be involved with the top players in the Valley.
“I have been coaching much of the local talent helping to develop the community of volleyball players that you see today” said Burkholder. “Coaching here a long time has helped me to see the players develop, not only at Chaparral but at all the high schools in the area. I have a good idea of the local talent”.
Burkholder’s goal for this season is to set up a strong foundation create a positive hard working culture and to compete at the highest level that the Pumas are capable of. “The Southwestern League is really strong” said Burkholder. “I think we have a lot of talent. We have a deep roster and I think that certainly we can compete with the best teams in the league”.
“We have a really strong senior class that I will build the team around” said Burkholder. “I have setter Hannah Rolfe and two really strong middle blockers in Emerson Sluis and Julianne Nussballm. Elizabeth Pulver is strong inside hitter and we can compete” .

The Pumas will face their first opponent of the 2015 season today at home as they host the Tigers from Elsinore. “Elsinore has a really talented squad. I think it’s the most talent that they have had in a couple of years” said Burkholder. “Renee Horton has done a great job of building the Tiger program. I’m very excited to see what our team looks like in a more official format”.
Game time is 4:30pm

Chaparral has a new Varsity Head Coach this season. Dana Burkholder has taken over the reigns of the Puma Volleyball Program. Burkholder’s experience is exceptional.
