The Murrieta Valley defense was on the field all night long as Moorpark controlled the ball with their slow, pounding running game. The Nighthawk 's dodged several Musketeer scoring opportunities as they held Moorpark to a single touchdown. Big defensive plays and a efficent offensive attack were the keysto last night's victory.

“The team came together and we finished strong” said MVHS Head Coach George Wilson. “The defense found a way to shut down Moorpark’s offense all night long. They adjusted, made the big plays. I’m really proud of their performance tonight”.
The Murrieta Valley offense was amazing when they got the ball. The Nighthawk offense only had the ball for 10 minutes and ran only 25 plays in the whole game. In fact, except for a kickoff return for a touchdown, the Nighthawk offense didn’t touch the ball in the entire third period.
The Musketeers offense started the game with a 10-minute drive in the first quarter to set the tone of the game. Ball control and keeping the potent nighthawk offense off the field was Moorpark’s strategy. Murrieta Valley’s defense forced many key turnovers and made huge plays to stop the Musketeers all night long.
The Nighthawks scored first in the second quarter when freshman uarterback Hank Bachmeier drove MVHS to the three yard line. He then hit Maurice Bell with the touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead.
Julio Robles intercepted quarterback Derrick Rodriguez ‘s pass on the Musketeer 23 yard line. Murrieta Valley took the ball and scored on a trick play. Bachmeier threw the ball behind the line of scrimmage to wide receiver Ryan Mascarenas. Mascarenas then tossed the ball to Marquis Spiker, who slipped untouched into the end zone for the touchdown.
In the third quarter, Moorpark scored their lone touchdown on a 9-yard run by running back Tyler Riehs to make it 14-7. The Nighthawks’ Maurice Bell answered immediately as he returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead.
The Murrieta defense rose to the occasion again late in the fourth quarter. The Nighthawks stopped the Musketeers on the 1-yard line on fourth down. Two plays later, running back Quincy Wimbish blasted up the middle and sprinted 99 yards for the Nighthawk’s final score.
Murrieta Valley is now 4-1 and the Nighthawks have a Bye next week to get ready for Southwestern League play. The Nighthawks will face off against Cross-city rival Murrieta Mesa on October 9. The Rams are 3-2 and coming off a huge 49-10 victory over Jurupa Hills.
