HS Water Polo: Murrieta Valley Blows past Vista Murrieta 13-5

The Nighthawks are Seeking their 16th Consecutive Southwestern League Championship Title

12108937_545850365562254_5714567522044013990_nMurrieta Valley won its second Southwestern League Boy’s Water Polo game of the season Thursday easily defeating Vista Murrieta 13-5. The Nighthawks are seeking to capture their 16th consecutive league Championship under Head Coach Bryan Lynton this season.

12088004_545849032229054_8707639254520477440_nMurrieta Valley took a quick 6-2 lead in the first period and never looked back. “We had a great first quarter” said Lyntton. “We controlled the tempo and were able to stop what they were trying to do on offense. It worked for us early and we just kind of built on it.”

12088595_545849798895644_7159293523195688194_nThe Nighthawks outscored the Broncos 7-3 in the next three periods and won 13-5. Senior Ian Fleenor led Murrieta’s charge,  scoring 5-goals for the Nighthawks in the contest. Josh Benitez and Hudson Rawlings each put two into the net for MVHS and Austin Garcia had nine saves.

Senior Matt Shirey was the offensive leader for the Broncos scoring –goals against a tough Nighthawk defense. Vista Murrieta goalkeeper Tommy Lotero was credited with 11 saves and kept the Nighthawks from making it a real runaway.

12122599_545849092229048_6844919882728342103_nThe Broncos are off to the Hank Vallekamp Servite Tournament this weekend and will home to face Murrieta Mesa in its next league game. The Nighthawks will faceoff with Chaparral in the Nighthawk pool. Both games are scheduled for Tuesday.
