Stockton
Forces Rubber Match with Dominant Win
By
Toph Buzzard
The
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were handled by the Stockton Ports in game
two of the series on Saturday night, falling by a final score of 7-3.
Just
one night after dominating and shutting out the Ports (51-54, 18-19),
the Quakes' (62-43, 21-16) fell back into their tough-stretch of the
past week.
Lazaro
Armenteros stood out offensively for Stockton, delivering the
nail in the coffin with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh.
The Athletics' prospect went 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored
and a walk.
Ports'
starting pitcher, Hogan Harris, making his Cal League debut,
gave up just one run across 4.1 frames with six strikeouts. The
Stockton bullpen kept the contest in tact, producing 4.2 innings of
two-run baseball, notching eight punchouts during that span.
Dillon
Paulson and Jeter Downs provided the runs on the evening,
tallying a pair of RBI doubles. Paulson went 2-for-4 on the night,
and the RBI served as his first in a Rancho uniform. Downs' drove
home two in the bottom of the ninth to give the Quakes some late
life, but it was too-little-too-late.
The
win went to Michael Danielak (1-0), as he hurled 1.2 scoreless
innings with two strikeouts.
Gerardo
Carrillo (2-7), Quakes' starter, suffered his second-straight
loss to the Ports, surrendering three earned runs on four hits in
three-plus innings.
As
both squads look for the series victory, Rancho will send LHP John
Rooney (1-1) to the mound, while Stockton gives the nod to RHP
Brady Feigl (5-6).
On
Sunday, the Smile Generation presents yet another Post-Game Kids Run
the Bases at LoanMart Field, as the Quakes battle the Ports in a
rubber match of their second-to-last series of the year. Purchase
