Chaparral
won the first two sets of Tuesday's Southwestern league contest
against Temecula Valley 25-15, 25-22. Then, the Golden Bears came
back to win the match 3 sets to 2.The final set was a tough 13-15
battle. Temecula pulled off a sinular come from behind victory over
Murrieta Valley last Thursday after being down by tow sets.
“It
was an incredibly intense match played at a very high level by both
teams. Chaparral came out and played really well in the first 2 sets.
My girls managed to stay calm and turn things around in the the 3rd
set” said Temecula Valley Coach

. “We switched from a 6-2 into a 5-1 in the 3rd set with
Ashlyn Beaver
setting and it really changed the look of our team”.
“Seniors
Hailey Hinkel
and Jordan Doiron
came up really big in the last 3 sets. Falling behind in the 4th set,
I inserted senior OH, Callie
Dubots into the
lineup and she was able to spark us with her energy”.
“Our
team has gone 5 sets in every league match so far. Aside from our
first league match of the year against Vista Murrieta, our team has
managed to fight back in the last 3 matches and come out on top”
added coach Palpallatoc.
“In fact, we’ve fallen behind in the last matches and have fought
back to win both matches in 5 sets. Our team is very young, but very
athletic. Every match has taken a complete team effort and we’ve
had to use most of the players on roster at different times. Our
coaching staff has a lot of trust in our players and we aren’t
afraid to make the changes and adjustments to give them the best
chance of winning. They have a lot of fight in them and never give
up”.
“This
loss hurts. We were in control of the match and let it slip away”
said Pumas Coach Gale
Johnson”.
“Temecula Valley battled and never gave up. They were resilient. We
take away many lessons from this match. We’ll learn from our
mistakes, apply the corrections and get better”.
Brooklyn
Frederick and Liana
Woodley led the
Pumas with 15 and 10 kills respectively. Alondra
Almaraz led the
defense with 26 digs.
In
other Southwestern league action, Vista
Murrieta, the
eighth ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 in this
weeks polls swept Great
Oak in 3 sets. The
Broncos took care of the Wolfpack 25-20, 25-17 and 25-17.
Murrieta
Valley also only took three sets to defeat Murrieta Mesa.The
Nighthawks won it 25-12, 25-20 and 25-13.
Southwestern
league action continues today as Murrieta Valley takes on Vista
Murrieta, Great Oak plays Chaparral and Temecula Valley faces
