Another
Second Half Swoon Dooms the Bolts
The
Chargers dropped another game to the Houston Texans, 27-20. Los
Angeles is now 1-2 on the season after suffering a second-half swoon
Sunday. The Chargers were leading 17-7 when they imploded in the
second half for the third time this season.
The
game started out with a blast as cornerback Desmond King recovered a
fumble and returned it to the Houtson 15-yard line. Phillip
Rivers wasted no time. He found Keenan
Allen in the front corner of the end
zone for a TD and a 7-0 lead.
The
defense forced a three-and-out on the next Texan drive. The Bolts
drove to the Houston six-yard line. A TD was brought back by a
holding penalty against left guard Dan
Feeney and
the Chargers settled for a Ty Long 35 yard field goal giving them a
10-0 lead.
On the
ensuing drive, the Texans took ball down into the Chargers’ red
zone. Joey Bosa
helped Houston get there with a roughing-the-passer penalty.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson tossed
a scoring pass to tight end Darren
Fells to make it 10-7.
Rivers
marched the Chargers down the field with a minute and forty seconds
left in the half. The drive culminated when Rivers nailed Allen on a
crossing route who as untouched as he went into the ed zone for the
score, making it 17-10 at the half.
The
Chargers offense imploded in the second half. Fumbles, penaties on
both sides of the ball hurt the Bolts. The Texans scored twice in
the third quarter to take a 21-17 lead.
In the
fourth quarter, Watson escaped a sack and tossed a pass to Jordan
Akins who scored to make it 26-1. The
Chargers last score was on a 43-yard field goal by Long.
The
Chargers will face off against the Denver Broncos next week. Houston
will play the Falcons.
