The UC Riverside Women's
Volleyball Team (5-12, 1-5) dropped a three set match to Long Beach
State (5-12, 2-3) Saturday night in a match that was much closer than
the final score indicates. The Highlanders held strong leads in the
second and third sets, but could not hold off The Beach who claimed
their second conference win.
UCR found itself down by
as much as seven in the first set but never quit, battling back to
force extra points before Long Beach captured it 26-24. The
Highlanders erupted early for a 5-0 lead in the second, only to allow
The Beach back in midway through the game before forfeiting the set
25-19.
The third set was as close
as it could be, but The Beach would again capitalize taking it 25-23.
Freshman Amarachi Osuji
led the way with her second straight double-digit match tallying
12 kills. Freshman Isabella Scarlett was truly efficient
notching her nine kills at a swing rate of .471. Sophomore setter
Dejah Dade added 31 assists and sophomore Renata Bath
gathered eight digs.
UC Riverside will now hit
the road to face a tough opponent in Hawaii next Friday.
