HS Football: Murrieta Mesa Cruises Past Indian Springs 45-12

McKinley Ross Runs for Three Touchdowns and 170 yards

Murrieta Mesa began the 2014 football season with a 45-12 rout of visiting Indian Springs Friday night. The Rams seized control of the contest l from the opening kickoff leaped to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. The Rams would score 10 more points in the second quarter and took a 31-6 lead into the locker room at halftime.
McKinley Ross ran for 170 yards and scored three touchdowns to open the season. Quarterback Peyton Uhl went 8-17 with touchdown passes to Austen Salcedo and Rodick Futrell. Bryan Phan led the team with 3 catches and 62 yards. He also had 44 yards in kick returns.
“It was a great game and a  perfect way to open the season” said Ram QB Peyton Uhl.  “We came together as a team tonight. McKinley Ross had a great game along with our offensive line. We just need to keep working hard every day to get better and better and get ready for next week.”
Mateo Thompson nailed a 39 yard field goal in the second quarter and was a perfect 6-for-6 on the extra point conversions. “I feel Mateo’s one of the best kickers in the Southwestern League” said Ram Head Coach Justin Schaeffer.
The Rams finished the game with two more touchdowns in the third quarter. Coach Schaeffer  used a majority of his roster and gave the backups quality playing time and game experience. The Coyotes scored *-points in the final quarter and the Rams finished the game with a 45-12 opening day victory.

Murrieta Mesa will travel to Moreno Valley next week to take on Rancho Verde Friday night. The Mustangs took care of a very tough Citrus Hill team in a close 37-34 win on opening night and are ranked 25th in the state by Maxpreps.  Game time is 7pm.
